Common reasons cubes stop glowing
Light-up cubes rely on a small battery and a water-activated switch. If the cube doesn't glow, the battery may be dead, the contacts may be corroded, or the switch may be stuck. These are normal wear issues, not defects.
Over time, mineral deposits from bath water can also build up around the battery contacts, preventing a good connection. A quick clean often solves the problem.
Diagnosis steps
- Symptom: Cube does not light up when placed in water.
- Likely cause: Dead battery or corroded battery contacts.
- Corrective action: Remove the battery compartment cover (usually a small screw). Take out the battery and check for white or green corrosion on the metal contacts. If present, gently scrape it off with a toothpick or small screwdriver. Insert a fresh LR44 or equivalent battery, positive side up. Replace the cover and test in water. If the cube still doesn't glow after a new battery, the switch may be damaged.
