If your Glo Pals character isn't glowing, follow this simple diagnosis to check water, cube placement, and battery life—then decide whether to replace the cube.
Quick answer
Most Glo Pals characters stop lighting because the Light-Up Cube inside isn't fully submerged, isn't placed correctly, or has run out of battery. Start by checking those three things, then replace the cube if needed.
Why the cube is the most common culprit
Glo Pals characters like Pippa® are designed to hold a Liquid-Activated Light-Up Cube in their back. The character itself doesn't contain the battery—the cube does. So if the character won't glow, the issue is almost always with the cube, not the character shell.
Because the cube activates only when it touches water, a character that isn't fully submerged or that has the cube placed incorrectly can appear broken when it's actually fine. Checking the cube first saves you time and avoids unnecessary replacements.
Diagnose the problem step by step
- Symptom: Character doesn't glow in water: Check that the character is fully submerged. The cube activates on liquid contact, so if only part of the character is in the water, the cube may not get wet. Move the character so the back (where the cube sits) is underwater. If it lights after full submersion, no repair is needed.
- Symptom: Still dark after full submersion: Remove the cube from the character and inspect the slot. Make sure the cube is pushed all the way in and oriented correctly. Sometimes the cube can shift during play and lose contact with the water. Reinsert the cube firmly and test again.
- Symptom: Cube is wet but won't glow: The cube's battery may be depleted. Glo Pals cubes are not designed for user battery replacement; once they stop responding to water, the cube has reached the end of its life. This is the point to stop troubleshooting and replace the cube with a new one. If the cube is dry or has been used for many sessions, replacement is the next step.
Products that help
- Pippa® Light-Up Character: Pippa® includes 2 Liquid-Activated Light-Up Cubes and lights up when a cube is placed in her back and dropped into water. Having a spare cube on hand lets you test whether the issue is the character or the cube itself.
